Eddie donating his time at Ronald McDonald House
This month I joined my wife Sam along with her team from Roots and Ardor to cook a mega sized meal for 100+ people at Ronald McDonald House BC. If you haven’t heard of RMH or what this fabulous institution does, I encourage you to take a gander through their website.
Unfortunately, most parents can’t afford to be with their child undergoing medical treatment far from home. This is where RMH, its staff, and the thousands of willing donors of time and money come in. Together, RMH helps over 2000 families every year that are dealing with serious illnesses and who are in need of a helping hand.
Sam has kindly donated her time at RMH BC since she moved to Vancouver from Calgary back in 2010 and we were so glad to be invited to help out as well. At first it was daunting having to cook for 100 children and their parents, but our crew knocked it out of the park and we had a lot of fun doing it. We BBQ’d chicken, cooked up a bolognese spaghetti, pesto penne, roasted veggies, with Caesar salad on the side. Everyone left feeling very full, including yours truly.
I can’t express how delightful each and every child and parent was, as well as the RMH staff, and how amazing it was to help these families out with our time. Many of them came up after the meal and thanked us for the effort, noting that after a long day in the hospital, the last thing they have the energy to do is cook up a hot meal for their own family. It was a great reminder that helping out with your time, if you can, is a fantastic way of giving back to our communities that are facing tremendous difficulties. This will not be the last time we have a cook out at RMH!
