What is the Barney Bentall & The Cariboo Express concert?

This musical hootenanny harkens back to a simpler time filled with music and laughter, where songs and stories capture the imagination and warm the heart (think Prairie Home Companion). The performance blends humorous monologues with a heartfelt set of roots, folk, and country favorites. Prepare to cheer and sing along while dancing in the aisles! Over 900 concert goers come together to support Potluck at this one-of-a-kind classic variety show hosted by Canadian music icon and Juno-award winning musician Barney Bentall.

Jefferson | Steele Partners’ clients will be invited to a private pre-concert reception at the Granville Room, just across the street from The Vogue. This year, we are ecstatic to tell you that Barney Bentall will stop by! He’ll bring a couple of band mates with him, as well as some of the directors of the Potluck Café Society. We’ve never been able to offer this before, so whether you’ve joined us before or have wanted to, come with us this year! More details will be made available closer to the date, but don’t plan to go elsewhere for dinner beforehand! We’ve also made sure the newly-renovated Granville Room is wheelchair accessible.

Why are Dwight and Tyler so passionate about this concert?

Last year after the show, Dwight and Tyler had a chance to thank Barney Bentall personally for the incredible evening. That’s when Barney himself questioned: “if it’s such a great event, why can’t we make more money for Potluck?” Knowing that Potluck’s catering business has outgrown their current kitchen, Barney, Dwight and Tyler made a silent pact to raise more funds this year for this successful social enterprise charity!

We have worked with Potluck over the last year to help the vision of a larger catering kitchen come true. Of course, a new kitchen is going to take money up front before it can start paying for itself. Currently, Potluck is considering a few different options for expanding their catering kitchen to allow them to increase their own capability to support their programs.

Isn’t that what we all want to see: self-sustaining solutions for the Downtown Eastside?
