RRSP and TFSA reminders

The deadline to contribute to your RRSP for the 2016 tax year is Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The maximum contribution amount for 2016 is $25,370, or 18% of earned income in 2015, whichever is the lesser amount. Your Notice of Assessment from CRA will indicate if you have any additional contribution room.

Income tax overview – 2017

In September 2017 the Income Tax Act will celebrate its centennial and has grown from approximately a ten page booklet to a four inch thick monstrosity that is more than 3,000 pages in length. The income tax system is constantly evolving and the following is more detail with respect to changes coming into effect January 1, 2017 as well as speculation from the tax community of changes to come in the future.
